Veterans of Foreign War - Scout of the Year Program

Veterans of Foreign War - VFW offers many opportunities. Their Scout of the Year program provides members of the Girl Scouts who display standout citizenship, patriotism and love of country (Gold Award Girl Scouts) with the opportunity to be rewarded with college scholarships of up to $5,000.

Summer Camp Registration is Live!

It's cold outside, so why not start thinking about something warm like Girl Scout camp?! We have so many awesome opportunities for your girl to have some fun, try new things, explore and make new friends. We've built up our leadership opportunities for Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors, continued girl favorites like horse camp, and added some brand new themes like "On Target", "DIY By Design", "Tree Top Adventures", and "Around the World". All registrations and camp forms are due to Council by May 15, 2020. Get your registration in by February 1, 2020, for an Early Bird discount. We can't wait to see your girls at camp!

CommUNITY Day with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra

Girl Scout Cadettes through Ambassadors and adults are invited to volunteer at the VSO in a celebration of brotherhood, unity and peace in remembrance of 9-11. Created in 2017 in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, this annual event embraces our community's cultural richness and diversity, uniting people of all ages, faiths and backgrounds through participation in music, dance and spoken word. Music will be available for any instrument at any level, so come play and sing with us!

Girl Scouts Join the Proteus Festival @ The Z - October 2019

Open to girls in grades 9-12.
Cost: FREE (option to purchase patch at the Zeiders Theatre after completing the festival).

Girl Scouts collaborate with The Zeiders Theater for the Proteus Festival, which is a celebration of creativity & community with performances, panel discussions and community participation. See last year's highlights here.
  • At the heart of Proteus Festival are the creative teams working to create new artistic pieces in three disciplines: music, film and theater. Teams will create their pieces over the festival weekend with mentorship from professionals in the field. On the closing day of the festival, all of the creative teams will present their new works to the public, and a panel of judges will award a “best of” prize in each category and an overall “Best of Proteus Festival” prize to the work deemed to best embody the creative spirit of the festival.

Open to Girl Scouts in grades 3-4. This is a girl and adult event.
Minimum Capacity: 10
Maximum Capacity: 30
Cost: Free (purchase your musician patch at a Girl Scout retail shop)

At this event, the girls and their parents will be introduced to the instruments we use in marching band. The girls will be able to come up and touch or hold most of the instruments and play the percussion instruments. Girls will be taught marching band commands, how to stand at attention, start marching and then play some songs and march around the band room.

This is a girl and adult event. All must pay to attend.

Workshop: Girl Scouts will spend two hours at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk to meet members of the Herndon Foundation Emerging Artists, engage in educational activities and see a performance of Jack and The Beanstalk (45 minutes long), in the Grand Lobby, upstairs in the Opera House. All participants must have purchased tickets to performance to attend this workshop.

Apply to join members of the Reaching for the Stars: NASA Science for Girl Scouts (aka Girl Scout Stars) team for a free weekend symposium on the new space science badges for Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scouts. Learn about the new badges, explore best practices for sharing science with girls, and take a closer look at the night sky. Leave with a plan to share at the NC Statewide Star Party and a Girl Scout program/event.
