Asia Farmer is helping The Giving Bookshelf expand into the Newport News area. This organization supports early childhood literacy to low-income children and was founded by Iyana McEachern, a Girl Scout and Girl Scout Board Member in New Jersey. To learn more about the organization visit thegivingbookshelf.org.
Two preschools in need within the Newport News area will receive custom bookshelves full of books. To participate, troops should hold a book drive for new or gently used books for preschoolers (infants to 4 years old) between now and March 7, 2019. Those who participate will receive The Giving Bookshelf Girl Scout patch - see Gallery.
Participating troops are to drop off all books collected on March 16, 2019, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Chipotle’s parking lot (across the street from Christopher Newport University). Asia Farmer and/or a representative with The Giving Bookshelf will be there to receive the books from troops.
A troop leader or representative may attend the event on March 24, 2019, at Christopher Newport University at which time The Giving Bookshelf Girl Scout patches will be issued. The location details will be distributed when the books are dropped off on March 16th.
