You could be a 1000+ top cookie seller by following these tips from last year’s top sellers:
- Ask – 90% of the general public would gladly buy Girl Scout Cookies but did you know that nearly 35% are never asked?
- Know your product – Be able to tell your customers about each variety. Be able to share how your troop will use the money.
- Share your goals – Be sure you let folks know you have set goals and what they are. Make posters or wear a t-shirt that explains your goals.
- Plan in advance – With an adult, map out the times and places where you plan to sell. Ask your parents/guardians for lists from the groups or organizations they belong to. Have them tell you which people you can call.
- Cookie booths – Participate in cookie booths with your troop.
- Get going – Have a Cookie Walkabout! Teams sell door-do-door in an assigned area. Just for fun, award prizes in categories such as most energy, most cookies sold, best decorated cookie car, etc.
- Identify yourself – Make sure your customers know you are a Girl Scout by wearing your uniform or Girl Scout t-shirt.
- Advertise your sale – Wear an “Ask me about Girl Scout Cookies” button and a Girl Scout t-shirt everywhere you go.
- Always say “thank you” – Be polite and thank the people you ask even if they don’t buy cookies. Thank customers when they order and again when you return with the cookies.
- Be a part of all your sales – If you send an order card to work with a parent/guardian because it’s not possible for you to be there yourself, attach a short note from you telling about your sales goal.
- Be positive – The majority of people will buy cookies from you if they are asked, so think positive. If you sell by phone, speak clearly and cheerfully. At cookie booths, stay focused on your customers and smile.
- Take extra cookies along with delivering – Ask, ask, and ask again. When you deliver cookies, ask customers if they would like to buy more than they ordered.
- Save your order card for next year – Review your order card and put stars beside your top customers. They can be your start for the next year so you will not have to find all new customers.
- Give customers something extra – Print out recipes and offer one free when they buy more than one package.
- Bundle the cookies – With pretty ribbon, tie up three packages to create bundles such as “Chocolate Lovers Pack” or “Classic Bundle.” It’s fun to give away free handmade gift cards too.
- Sell cookies for Hometown Heroes – Make booth signs that tell customers about this choice. Create a drop box so customers can see the donated cookies stacking up!
- Tell customers that cookies freeze beautifully – Give away a large zip-top freezer bag with large purchases.
- Offer a taste at booths – Open one box (you’ll have to pay for that one) and break cookies into small samples on a nice plate. No one can resist!
- Sell cookies online – Ask customers for online orders using Digital Cookie. Ask your parents for help with email addresses.
