Outdoor I & II: Combined Course

This course includes all of the content from the Outdoor I and Outdoor II courses in one weekend:

Outdoor I: This course will prepare volunteers to introduce girls to outside adventures. Emphasis is on knowledge of outdoor skills: meal planning and preparation (involving actual cooking/clean-up), use of kaper charts, propane stoves, knot tying, knife safety and protection of the natural world. Allows adult volunteers to take girls camping in a cabin or other walled structure.

Outdoor II: This overnight session is designed to prepare volunteers with the skills and knowledge to accompany the girls on a camping trip. Emphasis is on site set-up (tent and kitchen fly set-up and dish-washing), group cooking safety and program resources. Camp fire program, ecology and night activities will also be introduced.

Participants will sleep overnight in platform tents or cabins, depending on available resources. Participants will cook one additional meal during this combined course compared to Outdoor II. Participants are not required to take a stand-alone Outdoor I course before taking this course.

Registration and attendance is required at one of two pre-course sessions. Please register for the pre-course that you can attend.

During the planning session, participants will: 1) form patrols, 2) review the agenda for the weekend, campsite map and directions, 3) plan menus and divide equipment list, 4) elect patrol leaders, assistant patrol leaders and a first aider, 5) receive camp kaper assignments.
