Women in Transportation Society Scholarships

Founded in 1977, Women in Transportation Society (WTS) is an international organization dedicated to building the future of transportation through the global advancement of women. Boasting more than 6,500 members - both women and men - WTS is helping women find opportunity and recognition in the transportation industry. Through its professional activities, networking opportunities, and unparalleled access to industry and government leaders, WTS is turning the glass ceiling into a career portal.

2016 WTS Scholarships
  • The WTS Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship is $10,000. The minimum criteria for selection are:
    • GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance or logistics
    • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
  • The WTS Junior College/Trade School Scholarship is $1,000. The minimum criteria for selection are:
    • GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Currently enrolled in a degree program in a transportation-related field
    • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
  • The Leadership Legacy Scholarship currently takes the name of the 2016-2018 WTS International Chair, Diane Woodend Jones. It has a sustainable community and public transit focus with emphasis on candidates who are working to rejoin the workforce after some time away from the industry. The minimum criteria for selection are:
    • GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation planning or engineering, security planning, business management, finance, or logistics with a focus on public policy
    • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
    • Demonstrated interest in addressing transportation studies issue(s)
    • Submission of a personal statement of 500 words or less highlighting candidate’s interest in transportation/related field, relevant experiences and interests, and how this award will contribute to the candidate’s ability to make a meaningful contribution in the transportation arena
  • The WTS Molitoris Leadership Scholarship is $5,000. The minimum criteria for selection are:
    • GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance or logistics
    • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
    • Applicants for the Molitoris Leadership Scholarship must specifically address the issue of leadership on their personal statement
  • The WTS Sharon D. Banks Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship is $5,000. The minimum criteria for selection are:
    • GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance or logistics
    • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
