Core Camp is Coming! Venture Out to Camp Darden

Serving Girl Scouts in grades 2-12 and registered adults.

Core Camp is coming! So, what is it and why should you get excited?

Core Camp is an all-inclusive weekend experience:
  • offering essential camp skills to camping novices while also providing a variety of activities that expand the horizons of experienced campers.
  • with a theme based on the Journey or badges the girls will be earning. 
  • sample all of the various activities of Girl Scout camp.
  • planned by GSCCC staff and led by our fantastic outdoor volunteers. 
  • includes all meals, lodging, outdoor education activities, a core camp patch, and any badges or Journey the girls earn that weekend.
  • open to registered girls and adults.
As an added bonus, each troop may register two volunteers to each of the following courses: Low Ropes training, Archery training and Outdoor I and II training.

Whether you’re new to camping or go camping every chance you get, we invite you to join us on March 9, 2018, for a worry-free weekend you are sure to remember.

Seas the Day Augmented Reality T-Shirt

All troops with a per girl average of 228+ boxes will earn a Seas the Day augmented reality t-shirt for each girl with an initial order and up to two troop volunteers. Girls and adults LOVE watching their t-shirt come to life with swimming turtles making all sorts of happy, fun and frolicking sounds! Don’t delay - submit your initial order to your troop cookie volunteer by January 23, 2018.

Girls can also earn individual initial order rewards. Girls who sell 192+ boxes will earn a Tagalong Turtle, complete with a downloadable match game. Girls who sell 276+ boxes will earn a Traveling Turtle Bag.


All troops and girls are eligible for initial order rewards even if they opt out of final rewards.

7th Annual STEM Essay Contest for High School Females

Governor Terry McAuliffe and the Virginia Council on Women announced the 7th Annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Essay Contest for female high school juniors and seniors. The Virginia Council on Women will award at least five $5,000 scholarships to young women, in their junior and senior years in high school, who will be pursuing a STEM career at an institution of higher education. One scholarship will be awarded in each of five geographic regions across the state. Additional scholarships may be awarded at the discretion of the Council.

Climbing Wall Lock-In Peak Experience
Peak Experience
Midlothian, VA
Saturday, February 10 - Sunday, February 11, 2018
Ages: 11 and older are invited (no tagalongs)
$40 per climber (girl or adult)
$5 chaperone (limited spaces)
Drop-off: Saturday, 8:45 p.m. in the lobby.
Pick-up: Sunday, 6 a.m. in the lobby.
Registration deadline: January 30, 2018
Minimum: 40
Maximum: 80
Climb all night at Peak Experience, one of the largest climbing centers on the East Coast! Registered Girl Scout adults are also encouraged to sign up to climb and help belay. Participants age 13 or over will separate into groups for the "Learn the Ropes" belay class. This two-hour instructional session will teach participants how to belay and will cover climbing basics.

Graduating Ambassadors Eligible for Leadership Program & Scholarship - Applicatons due Jan 31

Annually, top female high school seniors from around the country are selected to participate in the KPMG Future Leaders Program and receive a scholarship of $10,000 per year through four years of college. Selected students attend a three-day retreat at Stanford University the summer before their freshman year of college and take part in a yearlong mentoring program, paired with a female leader participating in the KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit. 

Learn more about the program and share the application, which is due to the Office of Condoleezza Rice by January 31.

Girl Scout High Adventures: Cracks, Crevices and Crawlways

This event is open to all Girl Scout Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors (2nd Grade – 12th Grade girls). Parents/Chaperones are required to stay with the girls and are welcome to sign up and participate! All activities are indoors. Girls will be participating in caving type activities that will require crawling, climbing and scooting on the floor. Participants must wear long pants and tennis shoes.
