Trip Approval at a Glance

Through travel, girls gain enormous benefits. They develop self-confidence and learn leadership skills by planning, earning money, and venturing out.

This chart provides at a glance information for the trip approval process. Detailed information is available in Volunteer Essentials, pages 110-115.

MEETING TIME, DAY, AND SINGLE OVERNIGHT TRIPS WITHIN THE COUNCIL BOUNDARIES with activities that are not high adventure/ high risk. Approved by the TROOP LEADER.
MEETING TIME, DAY, AND SINGLE OVERNIGHT TRIPS that have activities that are high adventure/high risk*. Submit the Trip Approval Form to the SERVICE UNIT PROGRAM CONSULTANT or designee at least two weeks prior to the trip.
OVERNIGHT TRIPS
Two nights away to a location that is one hour or less of travel from the Council boundaries with no air travel.
Submit the Trip Approval Form to the SERVICE UNIT PROGRAM CONSULTANT or designee at least two weeks prior to the trip.
EXTENDED OVERNIGHT TRIPS
Three or four nights within the Council boundaries or one or more nights outside of the Council region**.
Submit the Trip Approval Form to the SERVICE UNIT PROGRAM CONSULTANT or designee at least two months prior to the trip.
NATIONAL TRIPS
Trips that last one week or more; travel anywhere in the United States outside of Council region**.
Submit the Intent to Plan a National/International Trip Form to the SERVICE UNIT PROGRAM CONSULTANT or designee when the group begins planning (three months to three years prior to scheduled trip).

Submit a National/International Trip Approval Form to the SERVICE UNIT PROGRAM CONSULTANT or designee at least one month prior to the trip. Approval is required from the COUNCIL.
INTERNATIONAL TRIPS Submit Intent to Plan a National/International Trip Form to the SERVICE UNIT PROGRAM CONSULTANT or designee when the group begins planning (up to three years prior to scheduled trip).

Submit a National/International Trip Approval Form to the SERVICE UNIT PROGRAM CONSULTANT or designee one year prior to the trip. Approval is required from the COUNCIL.
* HIGH ADVENTURE/HIGH RISK ACTIVITIES
High adventure/high risk activities include, but are not limited to:
Amusement park rides, archery, backpacking, bicycling, canoeing, caving, challenge course, high/low ropes course, horseback riding, indoor trampoline parks, kayaking, parades, rafting (includes moving current or pond/lakes), rappelling, rock climbing, roller skating/ice skating, row boating, sailing, scuba diving, Segway, shooting sports, skateboarding, skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding, tobogganing, snow tubing, snorkeling, surfing, swimming, travel (domestic or international), tree climbing, tubing, vaulting on horseback, waterskiing, windsurfing and zip lining.

The Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast’s extended overnight regions include: Alabama, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
