Take Action to Combat Sea Level Challenges
Hampton Road is experiencing challenges from the rising seas and flooding and YOUTH are needed to create innovative solutions as we learn to adapt to the water and become resilient. The Elizabeth River Project is hosting their 2nd Annual Youth Resilience Expo that will showcase youth projects addressing these issues. Girl Scouts are encouraged to submit a troop project to benefit their community.
The Youth Resilience Expo will take place on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.
Girls choose investigative questions such as:
- How can our community capture and reuse rainwater?
- How can our community address flooding and/or reduce runoff pollution?
- How do we encourage resilience action?
- What can our community do to reduce our carbon footprint?
This year's keynote speaker will be Jeremy Hoffman, the Chief Scientist at the Science Museum of Virginia. Hoffman will speak about urban heat islands and climate change impacts on humans and geological timescales.

Gold Award Information
In the latest issue of the GSCCC Magazine (Winter 2020, see above), it stated that girls interested in earning the Girl Scout Gold Award will need to complete the Go Gold Workshop online. This statement was published in error. Girls DO NOT need to view an online session or attend a workshop. The Gold Award Committee is offering mini mentoring Question & Answer sessions with its committee members. These sessions will be set up before or after our regularly scheduled interview/review dates. Girls can sign up to request a slot via email to the Gold Award Committee at gsgoldaward.gsccc@gmail.com. These sessions are for girls to come and discuss project ideas, get answers to their questions or to receive assistance in finding a project idea if she is struggling.
